Craig is an award-winning and progressive culinary professional at the helm of Urbane Culinary. He holds extensive experience in all facets of the culinary world, including cooking, management, operations and business development. Originally hailing from South Africa, Craig has lived in the Netherlands as well as the United Kingdom where he graduated with a degree in business and finance. In 2004, adventure called, and Craig took a sabbatical to explore the world – a journey that reignited his passion for food and culture.
After traveling extensively throughout Southeast Asia and Australia, Craig settled in Canada in 2005 to pursue a culinary career. He rapidly climbed the industry ranks as Sous Chef, Chef de Cuisine and Executive Sous Chef with Four-Star hotels and Four-Diamond restaurants. Paying tribute to his entrepreneurial spirit, Craig founded Urbane Culinary in 2015 with the belief that delicious food evokes moments and memories.
Rebecca first arrived in Calgary from the Northwest Territories to pursue a degree in biology. During her studies, she found great inspiration in the city’s culture. After completing her degree, Rebecca was drawn to the world of events. She worked as artist liaison for the Great Northern Arts Festival (GNAF), a summer festival promoting Northern art and performance artists.
Upon her return to Calgary, Rebecca coordinated wedding receptions and corporate events for large-scale venues before joining Urbane Culinary. Rebecca prides herself on providing clients a seamless journey down to every detail, from menu and event planning, to event day. She brings great care and attentiveness to the forefront of each Urbane experience. She has a deep appreciation for the unique nature of each client and event, and she is passionate about bringing events to life with Urbane’s thoughtfully-crafted and high quality cuisine.
With roots in British Columbia, Melissa spent her childhood summers in the Okanagan with her grandparents. Thanks to their encouragement, Melissa indulged in the region’s incredible produce and explored outlandish ingredients, which formed the foundation of her love for food. She pursued engineering after high school, but she was ultimately drawn back to her passion for culinary and creativity.
Melissa completed the Professional Cooking Program at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) before gaining her Red Seal Certification and experience at Hotel Arts and Raw Bar. She was a part of the opening team at Yellow Door Bistro, where she progressed from cook to Chef de Partie. Melissa also enjoyed a summer working at Grey Monk Winery in B.C. where creative daily specials and incredible chef and wine tastings inspired her to push her creative boundaries. Each time Melissa steps into the kitchen with Urbane Culinary, she is transported back to her fondest childhood memories. She credits her passion, inspiration and wide culinary horizons to her many travels.
